Literature Text

Your day was going well enough; your friends and you had all met up in the great hall for breakfast before your first Transfiguration lesson of the term, then during lunch you had hit the library to complete your Herbology homework on Fanged Geranium which you had ‘misplaced’ over the summer holidays. You never usually failed to complete homework but your summer had been hectic to say the least. There was a lot of speculation involving the school and Headmaster Dumbledore specifically, and now with all the rumors of the Dark Lord’s return your parents were reluctant to let you remain at Hogwarts for your fifth year. However you managed to convince them to let you stay, you told them that Hogwarts was the safest place for you to be and that they shouldn’t let fear cloud their judgement because after all there was no proof to say that You-Know-Who had actually returned. You shuddered slightly as you thought back to the events of last year. What if he had returned though? You pushed these unsettling thoughts from your mind and focused your attention to the front of your class where Professor Flitwick stood.

The rest on your day was pretty uneventful and by the time your lessons had ended you decided to head straight to the library and go over what you had learned just to make sure it had sunk in properly. You glided through the winding maze of books in search of the day’s lesson material. The library was practically empty because after all it was only the first week of classes, silence hung comfortably in the air and the smell of parchment filled your senses. You let your hand float over the spines of each book as you drifted deeper into the library towards the restricted section. This area was completely empty which was convenient for you as you worked best with no distractions; you moved into a comfy chair nearby and immersed yourself in reading a book about dangerous magical artifacts. You heard a soft set of footsteps however you paid no mind to them but soon a shadow had approached and was now looming over you, blocking your reading light. You looked up towards the figure and to your dismay it was none other than Draco Malfoy.

“Hello (y/n), hiding in the restricted section again” he smirked as he wrenched the book from your lap, flicking through the pages.

“Whoa this is dark stuff (y/n)... dark stuff indeed, are you sure you should be reading this” he drawled condescendingly before sending a quick wink in your direction. You narrowed your eyes at him and pulled the book from his grip before returning it to its original place in a nearby bookcase. This was the first time you had seen Draco since the summer term ended and you had hoped that this year he would take a hint and get off your case but you were obviously mistaken. He followed you when you moved to the bookcase, watching your body intently as he blocked your path out of the library. You let out a prolonged sigh emphasizing your frustration, ever since you kissed him for a dare in your third year he hadn’t left you alone. He wasn’t exactly mean to you and you were slightly grateful but that didn’t stop him from being extremely annoying and a shameless flirt.

“Really Draco, It’s only the third day of term and you’re already following me around like a lovesick puppy” you said in a mocking tone. A look of annoyance flashed across his face and he sent you a sharp glare. You watched him closely as he pulled out a book from the bookcase and flicked through its pages, before abruptly snapping it shut.

“Ha, a lovesick puppy, I don’t think so. You shouldn’t assume that everyone is in love with you (y/n) it’s most likely the opposite” he spat venomously. You were surprised by his sudden change of tone but attempted to defuse the situation by lightly brushing it off.

“ I suppose you’re going to say you hate me then?” you said casually.

“And what I if I did” he quickly retorted.

“I’d say you’re lying”

You swiftly picked up your book bag and started to make your way back down the aisle towards the exit however your path was quickly blocked as Draco lightly pushed you towards the opposite wall, placing his hands either side of you, trapping you with his body.

“Where do you think you’re going (y/l/n)? I’m not done talking to you”

“Well I am done talking to you” You moved to leave again but he pushed you back against the wall this time more forcefully and pinned your hands above you head. You stared at him with great intensity as a fiery rage built up inside you. You balled you fists slightly losing patience with him but he just dismissed your growing anger and smirked wildly.

“What’ the matter (y/l/n)?” he asked innocently not taking his eyes from yours, he let your hands drop from his grip and back down to your sides. You could feel yourself become flustered due to your closeness to him which caused you to fidget under his invasive stares. A deep blush rise across your cheeks which you feebly tried to cover with your hair. Truth is you liked Draco but knew a lot of your friends would disapprove; you hated being the centre of attention and that if it got out that you and Draco were anything more than casual enemies then it would be the talk of the school. Draco seemed to read your thoughts.

“I know you like me (y/n)” his leaned in closely and you could feel as his warm breath bated against your ear. “You make it so obvious” a smug expression filled his features when he noticed your eyes widen. You quickly regained your composure and slid your hand up to his shirt collar and lightly tugging him towards you, earning a surprised look from Draco. You placed a hand on his shoulder as you reached up and brought you lips closer to his, pulling his body into yours. You could see his eyes flutter shut as he prepared himself for the imminent kiss but before your lips could meet you subtly moved them past his mouth and towards his ear instead.

“From the first moment I set eyes on you” you whispered softly.

“I knew I wanted to spend the rest of my life...” you could see his mouth curve into a big smile.

“I-I feel the sam-“he whispered breathlessly

“...avoiding you”

His eyes snapped open and you began to laugh uncontrollably. You tried to compose yourself and steady your breathing but the second you saw his pissed off expression you lost all control again. He threw his hands up in annoyance and began to stalk away but you caught him by the wrist and pulled him towards you giggling slightly.

“All jokes aside... I do actually like you Draco” You smiled brightly and reached up gracefully kissing him lightly on the cheek. His expression changed completely and he let out a small laugh.

“Would you like to accompany me to the great hall?”

“I would love to”

He picked up your book bag and placed an arm gently round your shoulder as he led you out of the library.
